The Glossary is an essential part of the Accreditation Manual as it provides specific information that assists programs in understanding and applying the Standards and Criteria and maintaining compliance with the Accreditation Standards.

Mary Lou RusinMESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
MARY LOU RUSIN, EdD, RN, ANEF

Hello to All!
It is an exciting time at the NLNAC as we prepare for the introduction of the new 2013 Standards and Criteria. This "roll out" is the culmination of a year-long process spearheaded by Ms. Marilyn Smidt, a long-tenured nurse administrator and a volunteer extraordinaire for the NLNAC. Working with over 80 volunteers grouped into program-specific Subcommittees, each chaired by a Board member, Ms. Smidt led the charge to develop revisions that would result in greater transparency and a clearer understanding of the foundation of accreditation - the Standards and Criteria.

Perhaps the most important part of the revision process was your input. Over 11,000 comments were received in response to two separate request for comment periods, resulting in more precise language and clearly defined Standards and Criteria across all program types. The Subcommittee Chairs reviewed each and every suggestion and comment and incorporated your thoughts into the final version; we deeply appreciate your assistance in sharing your perspectives in this endeavor. Of course, this revision work also involved the creation of a user-friendly Glossary to support the terms found in the Standards and Criteria - again, with the goal of clear communication in mind.

A sincere thanks to our many communities of interest for your role in developing the 2013 Standards and Criteria. We are proud of the final product as it represents the collaboration and cooperation of so many individuals to a common goal - that of assuring the quality and integrity of six different and distinct nursing program types from practical nursing through the clinical doctorate. Supporting quality and integrity of our nursing programs is a goal I am sure we all can agree on!

Over 70 nurse administrators participated, and evaluation feedback was overwhelmingly positive. This workshop is designed to assist nurse administrators with understanding accreditation policies and their role in maintaining the program's compliance with the Accreditation Standards and policies. Registration for the June workshop to be held June 28, 2013, in Atlanta, is currently open on the NLNAC website. Space is limited, so sign-up today. We look forward to seeing you there.
